Portrait session prep guide

first things first

My biggest goal for my photography clients is to create beautiful images of your child safely and in the most comfortable of settings. I pride myself on my studio being a safe place.

preparing for your scheduled session

• In order for me to achieve the best possible photos of your child, it is best to schedule your session when your child is happiest. So we recommend a time when your child is rested and fed. Feel free to bring some snacks too! If your child still naps, we recommend scheduling between naps.

• Please DO NOT COME TO YOUR SESSION IF ANYONE IN YOUR FAMILY IS SICK. Since you are coming into my home for your session, I do have to protect myself and my family. If anyone at home or if your child who is going to be photographed is under the weather AT ALL, please let me know and we can find a time to reschedule! Thank you so much for your understanding and respect in this matter.

• Please let us know before your session the general look and feel you desire as well as any outfits you plan to bring or if you’d like to use some things from the Dear Lissie wardrobe.

What to expect during your session

• Upon arrival, I will get to know your child (or if you’re back, re-familiarize myself) for a few so we can develop a rapport. We will also make a quick plan for the session.

• Portrait sessions last 30-60 minutes depending on how your child does. Sometimes babies and toddlers can tire quickly so I will move swiftly through the session in order to keep up interest and energy for those perfect shots!

Session do’s and don’t’s

• DON’T take pictures with your own camera or cell phone during the session. If you want to document the day, you can take a couple “behind the scenes” pictures of me working with your child if you’d like, but please ask permission before sharing on social media.

• If you are having family pictures done in your session, please DON’T wear bright colors or busy prints. DO wear neutral solids or black or white. DO dress comfortably—if you’re uncomfortable in what you are wearing it will show in your expressions.

• DON’T forget that your remaining balance is due on the date of your session. I accept cash, checks, and Credit Cards (+ 3% processing fee). If for some reason you forget to bring a payment method (understandable—it’s not like you have anything going on in your life!) payment in full must be received before you will see any pictures from your session.

siblings

• I love capturing the interactions between your children! If this is something we have planned for—great!

• If there is a sibling that is NOT being photographed during your scheduled session, please make other arrangements for them. Due to COVID restrictions, I can only allow those who are being photographed in the studio. If there is no other option, please make sure the sibling is sitting quietly. I clean everything anyone touches in the studio after sessions so if your older or younger child is wandering around the studio exploring, please keep in mind I then have to clean everything they come in contact with. Believe me, I know how fun it is to explore a new and interesting space!

Please let me know if you have any questions about this!

after your session

• Generally my turnaround time is 2 weeks + or - a day or two.

• You will receive an email from me that will direct you to your password protected webpage proofing gallery where you can view the images from your session. In that email I will explain how to make your selections and move forward from there!

• Can’t choose just a few? There’s an option to purchase more digitals.

• PRINT YOUR PICTURES. I can’t tell you how many times I ask previous clients if they’ve printed their pictures and even a year later most of the time they sheepishly say, no, they haven’t. I am happy to take care of this for you. I have a ton of professional print products to offer and will send you a product price list with the link to view your gallery. If you do plan to print them on your own...please do not take them to a big box store. Have them printed professionally in Greenville at J&D photo or online at mpix.com.

Payment options

• I accept checks, cash and all major credit/debit cards (processing fee of 3% will be applied to all card transactions)

• SC sales tax of 6% will be applied to all post-session product purchases.
